PLYMOUTH ROCK, MASSACHUSETTS![]() Plymouth
Rock, Massachusetts. The place where the Pilgrims first came ashore from
the Mayflower in North America, in 1620, after their long and cramped voyage
from England. Well. We thought this was pretty good, for a 'history' place. The actual Mayflower doesn't exist anymore, but there is a perfect replica, named the Mayflower II, moored at Plymouth Rock. It
must have been very cramped indeed on board the ship for the people who
crossed from England. This is us sitting in a bunk which gives you an idea of what it was like. A whole family were more or less confined to this space throughout the voyage! The big rock is the
actual Rock which gives the town its name, and upon which the Pilgrims
carved the date of their arrival. |
